Do I Have to Write All my Blogs?

Many of us are not writers but blogging is becoming an important part of business.  It’s a fabulous way to keep clients up to date on what’s new in your business.  Sitting down in front on the computer with a blank screen can be overwhelming and the thought of having to write something every week is even more daunting.  So to answer the question, Do I have to write all my blogs? No, you don’t have to write all your blogs.  Below are 5 ways to get around writing your own blog.

1) Invite clients to write a review.  Ask your clients to write about what they think of a particular product or service.

2) Ask your suppliers to write about their products.  Who knows the product better than the supplier of that particular product.

3) Post a link to another blog. If you find a blog that is relevant to your business, ask permission and then post it on your blog.  Make sure you get permission and give credit.  You don’t want to plagiarize but most bloggers would be more than happy for you to use their blog.

4) Re-use a previous post.  Update an old post with some new content and before you know it you’ve got a new post!

5) Outsource. There are lot’s of great writers out there.  Have a ghost writer write your posts for you.

My New Puppy

I told you all when my much-loved dog, Morgan, past before Christmas.  Everyone was so supportive.  I still go back and read all the comments and posts people said at the time and it makes me feel better and that I’m not alone.

One of the great and not so great things about the internet is that once it’s out there…. it’s out there for good.  You can delete it but you don’t know who has downloaded it or shared it since you’ve posted it.  That’s enough about that, I want to talk about my puppy!

Over the weekend, I got my new puppy. Her name is Mya and she’s a Sheepadoodle.  (Olde English sheepdog + Large Poodle = Sheepadoodle).  I’ve never had a puppy. (We adopted Morgan when she was 10 months old and my childhood dogs were always older rescue dogs.) I’m loving the puppy experience; even if I haven’t had a good night’s sleep since Friday.  I love the way she smells, plays, eats, and sleeps.

Pinterest

Recently, I’ve been playing around with Pinterest and I can see how it can get addictive.  It’s full of funny, interesting, and weird images. I can also see how images can go viral on this site.  As the point of it is to post images, comment, and re-pin.  I’ve also noticed that a lot of people have their Pinterest account connected with their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Most of the images have links back to websites.  This is a must in marketing your business on any network.  If you can’t link back to your site, or at least your contact information, what’s the point?  When I see a fabulous pictures of some awesome shoes, I want to know where I can buy them or at least what brand they are.

The big drawback to this network is that it’s invite only.  It only took a day for me to get my invite after requesting one but it would have been nice to be able to just sign up. As far as I can tell, everyone get’s approved for an invite.

Pinterest is an interesting network and as I learn more about it I will I will write more.

Building Relationships

Most of us get so focused on building our business through Social Networks that we often forget about building relationships. People like to buy from people they know, like and trust.  How are people supposed to get to know you if you never meet in person? It’s important to take your online relationships offline and meet face to face.

Social Networks are a great way to meet new people and to maintain relationships with people you’ve already met.  However, it is important to get out there and meet people and use Social Media to stay connected with people you meet.

The Start is What Stops People the Most

“The start is what stops people the most” Don Shula (Former NFL Coach)

I read the above quote this morning and thought how true is this. It’s true for everything from Social Media, to starting a business, to renovating their house.  The start is often hard simply because people don’t know where to start.  When I started my business, I wasn’t sure what do to but I got help.  Same with our kitchen renovations.  I sought out help.  I am here to help you get started with Social Media.

Start with signing up. You don’t have to send out any updates, post pictures, interact with people…yet.  But you do need to sign up.  You do need to play with the network.  The best network to market yourself and your business is the one  you will use.  If you ask a personal trainer what the best cardio is, they will respond 90% of the time with the one you will do.  The same rule applies to Social Media.  The best network is the one you will use. So sign up and see which one you will use.  You can always delete the profile later.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all my readers.  I took a bit of a break over Christmas.  …it was a hard one after the loss of my furry little friend, Morgan.  I’m back and better than ever.  I’m focused and have a clear vision.  I spent a lot of time focusing on my goals and New Year Resolutions.  It’s extremely important to write out your goals and revisit them often.  It will keep you on track.

What are your goals for 2012? Are you thinking you’re going to spend more time marketing your business through Social Media.  What do you wish to achieve?  How will you know if its working if you don’t know what you want to achieve?  Once you know what you wish to achieve, then you can decide how you will get there.  Decide what tools (or Networks) you will use, who you will target, and then commit.

According to the Mayan calendar 2012 is the last year, so make it a good one!

My Dog Morgan

.

Many of you already know, my dog Morgan passed away this weekend.  She was more to me than a dog, she was my female ally in a house full of boys. (I have 3 sons.) We rescued her when she was 10 months old. She had been surrendered twice before we adopted her.  She wasn’t house broken, and had no training.  It didn’t take long for her to become part of our family.  She quickly learned that we were her forever pack.  She also learned her place in the pack. …which was below the cats.

I want to thank everyone for their comments on Facebook this weekend.  While I sat at home mourning the loss my friend, reading everyone’s comments was a great comfort.  It’s great to see so many people understand my heartache.

Better Late Than Never

Many of us get busy and forget things. This morning I knew I had a blog to write but I got busy and am just getting to it now.

Part of the reason I didn’t write earlier is because I didn’t have a topic. I didn’t write yesterday because word on Twitter was that the powder at Lake Louise was awesome.

Which brings me to a great Twitter story. Saturday I was thinking of going skiing. I was wondering if Lake Louise or Sunshine was better. So, like I do with any question I have… I go to Twitter. I tweet my question. Lake Louise retweets my tweet and almost immediately I get tweets back saying how awesome the skiing is. Which is why I was so busy today.

P.S. #skilouise is the Hashtag for Lake Louise.
